First Test to Recover the Energy Produced by Traffic

The first test to recover the energy produced by traffic will be carried out at the beginning of June.  Sensors and generators will be inserted into the road and the new energy created by the moving vehicles will be stored in batteries.  These batteries will be used to power a signboard and security lighting.

This process has been developed by Green Heart Monaco, a company specialising in this new technology, which enables traffic movements to be transformed into a clean, renewable source of energy.  The company will provide the equipment free of charge.

This experiment is being undertaken in partnership with the Department of Urban Amenities and is supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.  It will be carried out on the Avenue Princesse Grace, over a distance of approximately 20 metres in front of the National Museum, as part of resurfacing work on 5 and 6 June 2013.

This work, which will take place between the Rose des Vents roundabout and the Portier roundabout, will be carried out in two phases:  the planing of the road will take place on Wednesday 5 June from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., and the asphalting on Thursday 6 June from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

From 9 p.m., the Avenue will be closed to all traffic in the Roquebrune to Monaco direction between the Ruelle Emmanuel Gonzales and the Portier roundabout.  The last bus will circulate at 9.05 p.m.  The Ruelle Saint Jean will be closed to traffic during the night of 6 to 7 June.
