Address by the Police Department

Today, Paul Masseron, Minister of Interior and Richard Marangoni, Police Commissioner, welcomed H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, H.E. the Minister of State and numerous dignitaries for the Police Department's traditional address.

At this occasion, Police Commissioner Marangoni, who will hand over to Chief Superintendent Régis Asso on 1st February 2013 (see our communication), recalled the priorities for the security policy in the Principality:

-          prevention
-          protecting young people
-          international cooperation on legal matters
-          ongoing training of officers.

Presenting the key statistics for the past year (a 7.21% reduction in general crime and a 7.56% reduction in street crime – see attached document for more details), Police Commissioner Marangoni also emphasised the checks that are carried out throughout the year.  Out of 108,000 vehicles in use in the Principality:

-          3,000 checks were carried out
-          1,724 contravention notices were issued
-          1,072 oral cautions were given.
