Companies visit by the Minister of State

Mardi 19 février 2013, S.E. M. le Ministre d’État a visité les locaux de M.C. Company, entreprise spécialisée dans la création et la vente de maillots de bain sous les marques « Banana Moon » et « Livia».Il était accompagné de Jean Castellini, Conseiller de Gouvernement pour les Finances et l’Économie, et de Paul Masseron, Conseiller de Gouvernement pour l’Intérieur. Présidée par Daniel Flachaire, M.C. Company est une entreprise familiale, qui emploie une centaine de salariés (groupe). Elle est implantée, à Fontvieille, sur 2 700 m² de locaux industriels.Toute la production est maîtrisée depuis le site monégasque : design et bureau de stylisme,conception des motifs des tissus et des modèles, sérigraphie, coupe et montage, jusqu’à la phase d’industrialisation. Aujourd’hui, M.C. Company possède des clients répartis dans le monde entier. Ce sont des distributeurs indépendants spécialisés, des franchises ou encore des chaînes de grands magasins comme les « Galerie Lafayette » ou « Le Printemps » en France, « El Corte Ingles » en Espagne et "Ludwig Beck" en Allemagne. Le Ministre d’Etat poursuit ainsi sa série de rendez-vous avec les acteurs industriels de la Principauté entamée il y a plusieurs mois dans le cadre d’une démarche visant à valoriser les filières d’activité et les compétences existantes dans le bassin d’emploi monégasque et susciter l’installation de nouveaux investisseurs et de nouvelles activités en Principauté.

Vignette_Monachem - Jeudi 17 janvier 2013, S.E. M. le Ministre d’État a visité les locaux de Monachem, entreprise de production de principes actifs pharmaceutiques située rue du Gabian. Il était accompagné de Jean Castellini, Conseiller de Gouvernement pour les Finances et l’Économie et de Serge Pierreyves, Directeur de l’Expansion Économique. Implantée en Principauté depuis 1973, Monachem, qui emploie 32 collaborateurs, est dirigée par le Docteur Philippe Dellis et fait aujourd’hui partie du groupe israélien TEVA, leader mondial du médicament générique. Le Ministre d’Etat poursuit ainsi sa série de rendez-vous avec les acteurs industriels de la Principauté entamée il y a plusieurs mois dans le cadre d’une démarche visant à valoriser les filières d’activité et les compétences existantes dans le bassin d’emploi monégasque et susciter l’installation de nouveaux investisseurs et de nouvelles activités en Principauté.

Bettina SAM Vignette - Yesterday, the Minister of State, Michel Roger, visited Bettina, a company which was founded in 1954 and specialises in the very precise skill of combining material and knitted fabric. Bettina is the world leader in this art. The Minister of State was welcomed to Bettina by their Managing Director, Philippe Prud’homme. Bettina’s skill is based on high quality workmanship provided by an almost exclusively female workforce. The company, which has fundamentally family origins, trains their staff themselves in order to satisfy the standards required in the business sector (three to four years of training). Bettina also has a stock of more than thirty digitally controlled machines used for manufacturing knitted panels made of threads of silk or cashmere, as well as a computerised research department and a design-drawing workshop for the collections. Four years ago, the company had a staff of 85 and now employs almost 110 people. Over the same time period, the turnover increased from €4 million to almost €9 million. A few months ago, the Minister of State proceeded with a series of meetings with industrial players in the Principality within the context of an effort which aimed to promote the different existing sectors of activity and skill in the Monegasque job market. This effort also aimed to attract new investors and new activities to the Principality.

Visit Borgwarner - 22 February 2012 - The Minister of State, Michel Roger, visited BORGWARNER Monaco, where he was welcomed by Philippe Willmann, the Manager of the factory, and Isabelle Monnot, the Manager of Production and of the entire management team in the Group’s Monaco location. BORGWARNER Monaco has a very specific area of expertise within the group, its skill in the field of the design and production of high pressure solenoid valves, almost all of which are sold to two clients, MAGNETTI MARELLI (FIAT Group) and DELPHI.With a turnover of almost €60 million, BORGWARNER Monaco employs 270 people in the Principality (4500m² over five levels in the “Albu” building).

Vignette ASEPTA - 14 November 2011 - World leader in the dermo-cosmetics industry, the ASEPTA laboratories received a visit from the Minister of State, Michel Roger, last Thursday. The Minister of State, for several weeks, has been stepping up the attention of the Prince's Government on industrial companies in the Principality, and has been to visit many of them. An old family company (founded in 1943) which is very firmly settled in the Principality, ASEPTA is one of the crown jewels of Monaco’s pharmacy-cosmetology industry, and is a centre of industrial excellence with 24 companies and more than 800 employees.

Vignette-SBM-13 sept 2011 - The Prince's Government is proceeding with its effort towards companies which are located in the Principality: this is an initiative of Michel Roger, the Minister of State, as he wished to meet leaders of industrial companies that are located in Monaco. This process is part of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince’s desire to reinforce the attractiveness of Monaco as a place where companies can develop skills and centres of excellence. The idea behind this is also that leaders of companies are the people who are best informed concerning what it is like to exercise an economic activity in an area. It was SINGLE BUOY MOORINGS, a world leader in the field of industrial oil and gas engineering, and one of the main private employers in the Principality with more than 1,200 employees, that led Michel Roger to choose to initiate a series of meetings with industrial players in the Principality.

Inauguration du Foyer de l'Enfance Princesse Charlène

Opening of the Princess Charlene Children’s Home - From left to right: Stéphane Valeri, Minister of Health and Social Affairs; Patrick Serre, Director of the Princess Charlene Children's Home; T.S.H. Located at 9 rue Bellevue, the Princess Charlene Children's Home was built on the site of the old Dominican convent. The project was directed by the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs in co-operation with the Ministry of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development. As H.E the Minister of State emphasized, “this new building satisfies the need to provide the Children’s Home with a more suitable and modern location, where the needs and rights of children and their families can be met more completely.” The Prince's Government is thus demonstrating its commitment to continue to make Monaco a model country socially speaking, by making it possible to establish these new structures within the new Children’s Home.

Bolt BD - On 21 July, Usain Bolt gave a show on the Larvotto during a demonstration at the Herculis-Samsung Diamond League International Athletics Meeting, the best IAAF worldwide meeting.

NMNM Oceanomania - On 4 April, arrangements for the “Oceanomania - Memoirs from Mysterious Waters - From the expedition to the aquarium” began, with the arrival of some of Buffet’s paintings.This project, which is led by the American artist Mark Dion, was showcased from 12 April to 30 September at the Villa Paloma and at the Oceanography Museum.

UNAF 2BD - On 29 March, six beehives were unveiled in the green space on the roof terrace of the Museum of Philately and Coinage. Monaco symbolically chose the “Week without Pesticides” to formalise, in the presence of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, the programme for “The bee, sentinel of the environment®”, which was initiated by the French National Apiculture Union (UNAF).

Queen Mary 2 - On 14 April, the transatlantic liner “Queen Mary 2” stopped over in Monaco for a few hours.She moored in front of the Monte-Carlo Country Club, which was in full swing on the occasion of the Rolex Tennis Masters Series.

Chasuble BD1 - On 5 May, the award winners of the chasuble competition, which was organised to celebrate the centenary of the consecration of the Cathedral, were announced. The panel of judges, which was presided over by H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover, chose “the Centenary Chasuble” among 18 candidates coming from Panama, the United States, Byelorussia, Belgium, Italy, France and Monaco. “The Centenary Chasuble”, which was made by the “De fil en aiguille” association, required five and a half months of embroidery work, 392 metres of silver thread and 1752 hours of work.

OPTIMA PAC BD - On 5 May, Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, attended the first meeting for the “Optima Pac” project. This professional partnership, which is supported by the French and Monegasque governments, aims to optimize energy performance, the management of environmental impact on coastal areas as well as seawater heat pump systems. The partnership also aims to arrange for this industry to become more competitive.

Chelsea Flower - For their first entry into the Chelsea Flower Show, which took place from 23 to 28 May in London’s Royal Hospital, the Principality presented: “A Monaco Garden”, created by the English designer Sarah Eberle, under the auspices of the Ministry of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development.On 27 May, the panel of judges for the London competition awarded her a gold medal.

Letterbox -

ME - On 22 July, H.E. Mr Michel Roger responded to the comments made by the Editor-in-Chief of l’Express on the programme “C dans l’air”. In the presence of the journalists, he reflected on “the sentiment of the Monegasque community, and also the residents of the Principality” and reiterated that “Monaco is an independent and sovereign State, recognised as such for a long time by the international community.”

Back to school - On 12 September, 5849 pupils went back to school in the Principality and were welcomed by almost 453 teachers. In honour of the occasion, H.E. the Minister of State, accompanied by Paul Masseron, Minister of Interior and Isabelle Bonnal, Director of Education, Youth and Sport, made a surprise visit to FANB.

Badia UN - On 26 September, José Badia, Minister of Foreign Affairs, gave a speech in front of the UN General Assembly, on the occasion of the General Debate of the 66th session of the Assembly.With the international community watching, he announced that Monaco would contribute to the preparations for RIO+20, by presenting “Monaco’s Message” at the end of a high level meeting of experts concerning the sustainable management of oceans. This meeting will take place in the Principality from 28 to 30 November.

Budget Conference - On 4 October, H.E. the Minister of State and Marco Piccinini, Minister of Finance and Economy, presented the consensus for the 2012 Preliminary Budget. On this day, the Minister announced the State’s objective: “the priority for the Government is still to revive the budgetary surplus in order to maintain a competitive edge and initiate a virtuous circle, as this is the only way of ensuring Monaco’s economic and social permanence.”

Journalism Prize - On 6 October, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and André Azoulay, President of the Anna Lindh Foundation, attended a prize-giving ceremony for the Mediterranean Journalism Prize which took place, for the third time, in the Principality. That evening, the panel of judges, which was presided over by Edgar Morin, awarded two special prizes to bloggers, one of which was the Egyptian blogger Mohamed El-Dahshan, for his accounts of the Arab Spring from Tahrir Square.

Valeri Rampal - On 6 October, Stéphane Valeri, Minister of Health and Social Affairs and Prof. Patrick Rampal explained how the Gastroenterology Department at the Princess Grace Hospital came to be recognised as a European Training Centre for Gastroenterology. From now on, doctors who wish to study for the specialist degree for digestive system diseases can also be trained in Monaco.

IMSEE - On 10 October, the IMSEE’s Scientific Council met for the second time since the Institute was founded in January.Their president, Prof. Pierre-André Chiappori made his recommendations:

Establishment of structural indicators

Availability of administrative information in order to render public budgets more transparent

Creation of surveys concerning consumption habits

BD Favorite choice - On 21 October, the Prince Pierre Foundation and the Department of Education, Youth and Sport launched the 2012 edition of “High School Students Favorite Choice”.Created in 2007 within the context of the Monaco Prince Pierre Foundation Literary Prize, this “Favorite Choice” is a real challenge for the 68 high school students, who have to give a prize to the best of 13 novels which are selected (all the writers are under the age of 40). The high school students have to read these 13 novels between now and June 2012.

SilvatrimBD - On 27 October, H.E. the Minister of State visited Silvatrim as part of an effort which aims to promote existing sectors of activity and skill in the Monegasque job market and to attract new investors and new activities to the Principality.

Model BD - On 17 November, work to preserve the 1/200 model of Monaco will begin.Directed under the auspices of the NMNM, these works should breathe new life into the model, which is 17 metres long and 6 metres wide and is made of different pieces, the oldest of which dates from the 70s.

Council of Europe Conference: “Building a child-friendly Europe: turning a vision into reality”. - On 20 November, H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover will open the Council of Europe Conference: “Building a child-friendly Europe: turning a vision into reality”. On this occasion, the Princess will announce that Monaco will soon ratify the Council of Europe Agreement on the protection of children from exploitation and sexual abuse, signed in Lanzarote in 2007.

Armani2 Bookshop - On 30 November, the publications of the New National Museum of Monaco will appear in the windows of the highly exclusive Armani bookshop, which has just opened in Milan.These publications are already stocked by the bookshops and libraries in the largest museums of the world, and thus form part of the very small circle of reference works.

Organ SPA BD - On 11 December, after several months of reconstruction “works”, the great organ in the Cathedral will be “made” public during a majestic opening concert.20 tonnes, 4 pianos, 79 stops and some 7000 pipes were installed and brought into harmony with one another in a little more than 6 months by the manufacturer Thomas, under the auspices of the Department of Cultural Affairs.
