On 28 April 2025, Ms Alyson Calem-Sangiorgio, Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Monaco to the United Nations, was elected Vice-Chair and Rapporteur of the United Nations Committee on Information* for 2025-2026. This Committee handles matters relating to public information and global communication. It oversees the work of the Department of Global Communications (DCG), which aims to strengthen the impact, transparency and credibility of the UN’s work.

In her speech, Ms Calem-Sangiorgio emphasised the importance of the UN positioning itself as a reliable source of information in a world where misinformation continues to spread at an ever-increasing rate. She also highlighted the DCG's vital role in providing factual, accessible, and multilingual information, and she praised flagship initiatives—from the 'Verified' campaign to sports diplomacy partnerships such as the 'Football for the Goals' programme—that show how the United Nations can reach diverse and engaged audiences.

Ms Calem-Sangiorgio reaffirmed Monaco's commitment to defending fundamental freedoms such as freedom of expression, the safety of journalists, and multilingualism as the foundations of a trustworthy information ecosystem. She also expressed the Principality's support for the launch of the UN Global Principles for Information Integrity (www.un.org/en/information-integrity/global-principles ).
