Since Thursday 1st July 2016, the Handiplage and Audioplage site has been welcoming disabled visitors and those with reduced mobility to Larvotto beach to enjoy swimming in the sea. Stephane Valeri, Minister of Health and Social Affairs, accompanied by Elodie Koukoui and Mr Michaël Fiori, who is responsible for accessibility and disability issues in the Department of Social Welfare and Social Services, attended the official opening of the site on Tuesday 5 July 2016. Those present included Thierry Poyet, Chair of the National Council Committee on Social Aims and Other Matters, Jacques Pastor, Deputy Mayor, and Evelyne Tonelli, President of the Soroptimist International Club of Monaco.

For the 11th consecutive year, the Handiplage and Audioplage site  is the result of a partnership between the Prince’s Government and the Soroptimist International Club of Monaco. The site has been equipped with an audio-beach facility allowing blind and partially sighted users to enjoy the sea in complete freedom and safety, thanks to sound beacons which indicate their position in the water. The facility is managed by the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs. LRegular and new users are welcome every day of the week, including weekends and public holidays, from 10 am to 5 pm until Sunday 4 September 2016 at the Larvotto beach, on the right side of the central jetty.  Four young Handiplage assistants are available to help people with reduced mobility and supervise them during their swim.
