The Principality prepares to take part in the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November 2016

On 25 November 2016, the Principality is taking part in the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. This initiative, which is supported by the United Nations, will be an opportunity to present the main actions and measures implemented by the State and various charitable groups in the Principality to combat this violence.

This Day is coordinated by the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs and is the result of joint discussions by the Prince's Government with the National Council, the High Commissioner for the Protection for Rights, Freedoms and for Mediation and charitable groups involved in this cause, notably Femmes Leaders Mondiales Monaco, Genderhopes, Pink Ribbon, Action Innocence, the Union of Monegasque Women, the "Association d'Aide aux Victimes d'Infractions Pénales" (AVIP), which helps victims of crime, and the Zonta Club.

The Principality's involvement in this International Day will be marked by a poster campaign from 21 to 27 November 2016 to raise public awareness. It will be relayed on the Government's website, websites of charitable groups and on social networks.

In addition, 25 November 2016 will be an opportunity to launch a unique telephone helpline, which is anonymous and free of charge, giving information to victims of conjugal violence: le 116.919.

An information page devoted to victims of violence will be added to the web site of the Prince's Government. Also, Gender Hopes and Femmes Leaders Monaco created the website monacosaysnotoviolence.com informing and orientating women confronted to violences.

To make the public fully aware of this issue, a lecture on the subject of "Against violence to women: we are all involved" will be held on Friday 25 November 2016, at 6 pm, in the Auditorium of Monaco's Vocational and Catering School (Lycée Technique et Hôtelier de Monaco), 7 Allée Lazare Sauvaigo.  It will be given by Professor Alessandra Kustermann, a doctor specialising in obstetrics and gynaecology, who is also an expert on the care of victims of violence.

This lecture will be followed by cocktails, during which the public can talk to the speaker and the professionals present.

Since 2014, the official colour of the "UN Women" campaign has been orange, symbolising a better future without violence towards women. Iconic monuments will be illuminated in orange to reach out to a new audience and disseminate a message of zero tolerance of this violence. Join the Orange movement!
