Ms Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and acting Minister of State, attended the second meeting of the French-Italian Border Cooperation Committee held in Nice at the Villa Masséna. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Mr Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The Committee was established by the Quirinal Treaty (Traité entre la République française et la République italienne pour une coopération bilatérale renforcée), signed by France and Italy on 26 November 2021 to create a stable and official framework in which to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

French and Italian authorities invited the Principality of Monaco to attend Committee meetings as an observer state, given the proximity of the Principality to the area of activity covered by the Quirinal Treaty.

The first meeting of this Committee was held in Turin on 31 October 2023. The purpose of the second meeting was to review the progress made on border cooperation issues since the initial meeting.

Participants discussed issues related to transportation, the environment, education and health.

Two topics of direct concern to the Principality were the improvement of rail service on the Nice-Vintimille line and the management of water resources in the Roya Valley, which supplies water to the Principality.

Ms Isabelle Berro-Amadeï spoke of the Prince’s Government's special commitment to the quality of rail service in Monaco and to how water resources are managed in the Roya Valley.
