An undertaking at international level
A country mobilised by its Sovereign, H.S.H. Prince Albert II, to tackle the universal issue of the environment
At the initiative of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, the Prince's Government takes affirmative action to foster sustainable development in the Principality. Activities involve taking into account biodiversity, resource management, the implementation of a climate-based energy plan.
The State departments make daily contributions, to implementing all or part of this policy through their work in servicing the public.Among these missions is the implementation of the many international conventions and agreements ratified by the Principality, such as the Kyoto Protocol, and more recently the Paris Agreement.
Monaco is also a historic member of the Washington Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, known as CITES, the provisions of which are implemented via the introduction of a permit system.
Lastly, the Principality of Monaco takes an active part, in preserving the Mediterranean through the RAMOGE Agreement, the Pelagos Sanctuary, the Barcelona Convention, among others and the Principality is also the headquarters of international entities studying and preserving the marine environment (ACCOBAMS, IAEA, etc.)
