Mainly composed of uniformed officers, the principal task of the Urban Policing Division is to maintain, by means of a permanent and strong presence, a high level of security in the Principality.
Including a total of 294 officers, its activities are essentially carried out on the ground, through its duties of:
- Maintaining public order
- Regulating road traffic
- Identity checks
- Keeping sensitive establishments, sports and cultural events secure
- Preventing and punishing offences
Organisation and operation
Personnel, Administration and Disciplinary Office
It coordinates the recruitment of officers and other staff, manages working times and deals with ethical requirements, vocational training and equipment.
Uniformed Operational Units
They patrol on the ground, both during the day and at night, with 280 officers spread over the various parts of the Principality.
General Policing Section, consisting of three shifts, one specifically devoted to night work, covering facilities and intervention in the town.
The Community and Security Section, which also covers neighbourhood policing and taking offenders to Court. The unit is in close contact with the population through its extensive coverage of the territory.
The Civilian Reserve is part of the Community and Security Section, and is particularly involved in patrolling schools.
The Operational Support Group, created to meet new requirements that arise daily, carries out a wide range of missions, including fighting crime and petty crime; security rounds and general national surveillance, and ensuring road safety.
The motorcycle squad deals with offences against the Highway Code, and first response at road accidents where there are bodily injuries. It also provides escorts for official processions and convoys.
A duty office operates 24 hours a day. The duty officer is responsible for the operational command of all uniformed units of the Urban Policing Division during his/her shift. The duty officer mainly works from the Monitoring and Operational Command Centre (CSCO).
Protection, Surveillance and Intervention Unit. It carries out general patrols in the town with the aim, at all times, of forcefully combating all forms of crime, from small to major crime.
The Unit is also in charge of drafting intervention plans for sensitive locations (banks, jewellers, etc.).
The shooting range enables all police officers to practice handling weapons on a regular basis.
