The Prince's Government Supports Victims of the Drought in Madagascar
The Prince's Government has responded to the urgent appeal from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to provide food and nutritional assistance to the populations of Madagascar.
In particular, the contribution from the Prince's Government will enable the WFP to intensify its programme to prevent and treat acute malnutrition among more that 200,000 pregnant women, nursing mothers and children under five years of age.
As a reminder, three consecutive years of drought and poor harvests, exacerbated by the climatic phenomenon El Niño, have left southern Madagascar confronted by one of its worst ever crises. The WFP estimates that 1.2 million people, i.e. two out of three people in the region, are suffering from food insecurity.
