On the occasion of Monaco National Day, and following the consular meeting organised by the Department of Diplomatic and Consular Relations, the Department of International Cooperation brought together the consuls representing its 11 partner countries.* The meeting provided an opportunity to review the department’s activities during the period 2015–2017 and to present to the consuls the strategy for 2018–2020. The key target of this strategy is to help more than 1 million direct beneficiaries over the course of the three years.

Presented jointly by Gilles Tonelli, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and Bénédicte Schutz, Director of International Cooperation, this new strategy comprises the following points:

  • A substantial increase in official development assistance (ODA)
  • A refocusing on 11 countries, including 7 least developed countries (LDCs) in Africa
  • Increase in direct aid to local stakeholders
  • 1 new priority: food security
  • Strengthening of emergency humanitarian aid and support for refugees
  • Above all, a target of more than 1 million direct beneficiaries (compared with 800,000 during 2015–2017)

*: Burkina Faso, Burundi, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia.
