Monaco and ICRC sign three-year funding plan for 2021–2023

In accordance with the agreement signed in Geneva by the Prince’s Government and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on 23 May 2018, Ms Isabelle Rosabrunetto, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and Mr Yves Arnoldy, Head of the Regional Delegation (France and South Europe) for the ICRC, signed a three-year funding plan covering the period 2021–2023 on Monday 14 December 2020.

This three-year plan will come into force on 1 January next year and run until 31 December 2023. For the ICRC, it represents funding of more than €0.5 million over the three years.

The Prince’s Government and the ICRC also agreed to direct part of Monaco’s contribution towards operations conducted in long-running conflicts, and towards the physical rehabilitation programme in Mali, a partner country of Monaco’s Official Development Assistance programme. The ICRC has discretion over the rest of the funding, so that it can use it according to needs dictated by emergency situations.

The ICRC is a long-standing partner of the Prince’s Government. It has a purely humanitarian mission, offering protection and assistance to the victims of armed conflicts. Such conflicts are becoming increasingly numerous and long, with significant humanitarian consequences, as is currently the case in Syria and Yemen.

The signing of this funding plan illustrates the Principality’s deep attachment to respect for international humanitarian law.
