Monaco at 8th COP to the International Convention against Doping in Sport
The Principality of Monaco took part in the eighth Conference of Parties (COP) to the International Convention against Doping in Sport, which was held at the UNESCO headquarters from 26 to 28 October 2021. Discussions at the session focused on clarifying the governance framework for combating doping.
Since the last conference, the Monegasque Government has:
• Created a national anti-doping platform involving all relevant Monegasque stakeholders. A Sovereign Ordinance and the corresponding ministerial decrees have amended the legislative framework relating to food supplements. Chemists have joined the professions and groups to which the codes of conduct, best practice and ethics on doping issues apply.
• Introduced annual support for anti-doping research via the UNESCO Anti-doping Chair at the University of Paris Nanterre, which has benefited one student completing a Master’s 2 degree for their work on “The consultation process for revising the World Anti-Doping Code: debates and constraints in global harmonisation of anti-doping law.”
Through these provisions, Monaco has managed to implement more than 80% of the Convention.
