Ms Alyson Calem-Sangiorgio, Second Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations in New York, attended the 17th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP) which took place on 11-13 June 2024 on the theme of Rethinking disability inclusion in the current international juncture and ahead of the Summit of the Future.

She recalled the related initiatives implemented in the Principality to promote the inclusion of persons with disabilities, adding that rethinking the inclusion of visible and invisible disabilities required raising awareness, communication and support.  She presented Monaco’s national “Handipact” plan launched in 2023 by the Prince’s Government, which mobilises public and private stakeholders in the Principality to improve accessibility, services and the inclusion of people affected by all forms of disability.

Nine members were elected to the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, including, for the first time, a candidate from the European Union: Ms Inmaculada Placencia Porrero.
