Visit by Major General Jean-Claude Gallet Commander of the Paris Fire Brigade

On Friday 13 September, as part of the long-established relationship between the Paris Fire Brigade and the Monaco Fire and Emergency Service, Lieutenant-Colonel Norbert Fassiaux, Head of the Corps, received a visit from Major General Jean-Claude Gallet, Commander of the Paris Fire Brigade, who is due to leave his post shortly.

The agenda for the day included:

-        a discussion on many current operational topics and recruitment;

-        a static display of specific intervention equipment in the two emergency centres;

-        a presentation on the concept of the use and provision of resources in the Principality;

-        an assessment of the operational partnership agreement signed on 19 July 2017 by the two Units.

A lunch, attended, in particular, by Mr. Patrice Cellario, Minister of Interior, Colonel Tony Varo, Supreme Commander of the Military Force and Lieutenant-Colonel Fassiaux, was followed by an exchange of souvenirs and the signing of the Guestbook.

As a reminder, on 19 June 1909, Prince Albert I created the Fire and Emergency Service, organised on military lines, by Sovereign Ordinance No. 1.778.  The Principality's Authorities then enlisted the help of personnel from the Paris Fire Regiment to help supervise the Service, including the Brigade's first Commander, Lieutenant Auguste Picandet.  Since that time, many of the Corps' members have come from the Paris Fire Brigade.
