Isabelle Costa, High Commissioner for European Affairs, accompanied by H.E. Mr Frédéric Labarrère, Ambassador and Head of Monaco’s Permanent Representation to the European Union and Ms Kristel Malgherini, Advisor in the Prince’s Cabinet, took part in a working lunch on 4 July 2023 hosted by Mr Maros Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European Commission. The delegations of Andorra and San Marino were led by Landry Riba, Secretary of State for European Affairs, and Luca Beccari, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Economic Cooperation and Telecommunications, respectively.

This political meeting was an opportunity to review work carried out in the first half of 2023 and to set a common agenda for the coming months. Negotiation rounds are scheduled every month, in the form of a one-day multilateral meeting between the European Union, Andorra, Monaco and San Marino, and a one-day bilateral meeting between the Commission and each State.

Participants also engaged in a constructive exchange of views on provisions of the draft agreement that are common to the three nations.

Isabelle Costa welcomed “the positive climate of the talks, which should result in a mutually satisfactory agreement for Monaco and for Member States of the European Union, as it is in our mutual interest to structure our legal, economic and political relations.”
