2nd meeting of Monaco Commission on Human Health and Ocean Pollution
Created during Monaco Ocean Week 2019, the Monaco Commission on Human Health and Ocean Pollution is chaired by Professor Patrick Rampal (Monaco Scientific Centre) and Professor Philip Landrigan (Boston College), and managed by Dr Hervé Raps (Monaco Scientific Centre).
Its membership comprises 18 scientists representing research centres or international organisations.
In 2019 and 2020, the Commission supervised the work of 44 scientists from 18 different countries, resulting in the production of the Report on Human Health and Ocean Pollution, which was presented at an international symposium on Human Health and the Ocean in a Changing World in December 2020.
The report highlights the impact of chemical and organic pollutants on human health and potential solutions to reduce ocean pollution.
The Monaco Commission on Human Health and Ocean Pollution met again during Monaco Ocean Week 2021 on Wednesday 24 March 2021.
This was a working meeting, at which members were able to present the latest updates on their science and collaborate on implementation of the Monaco Declaration on Human Health and Ocean Pollution.
Following the meeting, Professor Landrigan gave a public presentation about the Report and the Monaco Declaration, which was broadcast on the Monaco Ocean Week website.
The Report on Human Health and Ocean Pollution, with a preface by H.S.H. Prince Albert II, together with the Monaco Declaration, can be downloaded from: https://bit.ly/31ng2di
