Monaco takes part in 41st session of UNESCO General Conference

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Laurent Anselmi took part in the 41^stsession of the UNESCO General Conference, which is currently underway in Paris until 24 November. Mr Anselmi was accompanied by H.E. Ms Yvette Lambin-Berti, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Monaco to UNESCO.

On Monday 15 November, after congratulating Director-General Audrey Azoulay on her re-election, the Minister hailed UNESCO’s work. In particular, he highlighted the speed and strength of the organisation’s support for the education and culture sectors, which have been hard hit by the health crisis.

He also explained the policy pursued by the Prince’s Government to ensure the continuity of public education in the Principality, in accordance with health regulations.

At the international level, the Minister noted the high value that the Monegasque authorities attach to protecting the inalienable and universal right of girls to education, to preserving world heritage in conflict zones, and to combatting doping in sport.

Referring specifically to the action of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, Laurent Anselmi also extensively discussed the protection of the seas, oceans and polar regions, in conjunction with UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission.

With regard to Monaco’s international commitments, the Minster announced the renewal of the framework cooperation agreement (2022–2025) signed by the Principality and UNESCO, and the maintenance of support for the World Heritage Marine Programme and the Programme for Girls’ Education in Burundi.

The Minister’s visit to the UNESCO headquarters also enabled discussions to take place with several delegations, including those from the partner countries of Monaco’s Official Development Assistance.
