The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation held its annual Diplomatic Conference from 24 to 26 April, bringing together the entire Monegasque diplomatic corps.

The conference was opened by Gilles Tonelli, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, who emphasised: “Our primary responsibility is to represent H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, to ensure that people are aware of and acknowledge the reality of Monaco, which is so different from the clichés that still persist, by maintaining the best possible bilateral relationships with the countries where you work [...] Our role is also to assert our place in the community of nations on the issues to which the Sovereign Prince is committed, as part of the multilateralism that is so vital to international relations.”

Following an update on the progress of negotiations between Monaco and the European Union, there was a presentation on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on the status of the Principality’s commitment to SDG 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

A variety of topical issues were raised during this annual meeting, including the energy transition, budgetary and fiscal developments, the offshore urban extension project, the role of the Women’s Rights Committee, Expo 2020 Dubai and the Prince Albert I Commemoration Committee.

The conference is a highlight of the Principality’s diplomatic life.
