From 9 to 17 September, the Director of the Chiaka Sidibé Hotel School in Bamako, Mr Khoudja, and a teacher, Ms Sow, received immersion training at Monaco's Vocational and Catering School (Lycée Technique et Hôtelier de Monaco).

Their training was provided in connection with a Memorandum of Understanding signed last March at the 2nd Mali-Monaco Bilateral Commission, and covers the period of 2019-2021.  The aim is to broaden the knowledge of the staff and students of the Chiaka Sidibé Hotel School in the fields of cooking, restaurant service and guest accommodation, through cooperation with Monaco's Vocational and Catering School.

Mali's population is very young, and often lacks access to high quality training, particularly in the tourism, hotel and restaurant sectors, in a country where the youth unemployment rate is estimated at 18% (source:  UNDP).

The Chiaka Sidibé Hotel School opened in September 2015 and was founded by Mr Mossadeck Bally, Consul of Monaco in Mali and Administrator of the school.  It offers training to young people in cooking, restaurant service and marketing, baking and patisserie, and, since the beginning of the 2018 school year, in room service and reception.

Note that, over the period of 2019-2021, the Prince's Government is also funding 56 study grants for young people from the SOS Children's Village Mali, so they can benefit from this highly effective training; 90% of graduates find a job at the end of their training year.
