Monaco Red Cross commits to Principality’s energy transition
On Thursday 25 July, Secretary-General of the Monaco Red Cross Frédéric Platini signed the National Energy Transition Pact Commitment Charter, in the presence of Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, and Annabelle Jaeger-Seydoux, Director of the Mission for Energy Transition.
In her speech, Ms Gramaglia hailed the efforts undertaken by the Monaco Red Cross:
“By signing the Pact today, the Monaco Red Cross has made the decision to commit to a major campaign to raise awareness among its teams and to take specific actions to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, and I congratulate the organisation on that decision. These are ambitious objectives but they match the scale of the climate emergency. Weather events are impacting countries and people more and more, mobilising an ever greater response from humanitarian organisations like the Red Cross.”
The Monaco Red Cross is implementing a committed energy transition plan over 30 months, based on several recommendations from the Mission for Energy Transition. The aim is to achieve substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions by 2021. All managers and staff at the organisation will need to commit to following the plan, which is broken down into a number of components: regular mobilisation meetings for all staff, presentations to staff by the Mission for Energy Transition, the appointment of Energy Transition focal points, efforts to raise awareness about the plan among volunteer members, communication, energy and waste management in buildings, remote working, etc.
More information will follow on Monaco Info and the Government’s social media pages soon.
