Government welcomes agreement between Monaco Telecom and Huawei on 5G coverage in Monaco
During his visit to China, H.S.H. Prince Albert II witnessed the signing of an agreement by Martin Peronnet, CEO of Monaco Telecom, and Shi Weiliang, CEO of Huawei France, in Beijing today. The aim of the agreement is to make the Principality the first country in the world to enjoy full 5G coverage.
This agreement continues the partnership, begun in 2012, between the Monegasque operator and the Chinese giant, the world leader in fixed and mobile networks.
Frédéric Genta, Country Chief Digital Officer, who also attended the signing ceremony, noted: “The launch of 5G is confirmation of our ambition and our position as a pioneer in the field of connectivity, a prerequisite for the digital transition. This also shows that the Principality’s digital transition and Monaco Telecom’s strategy can only be achieved through strong collaboration.”
Indeed, 5G will be a key vector in the growth of the digital economy and the development of a smart city, helping Monaco to offer the best quality of life in the world, through digital technology.
An initial pilot area will be operational from the end of September during the Monaco Yacht Show. The network will be fully deployed in time to host the first commercial terminals, expected in mid-2019.
