Monaco participates in 1st Regular Session of World Food Programme Executive Board
From 27 February to 1 March, the Principality of Monaco took part in the work of the 1st Session of the World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Board, which produced a report summarising four impact assessments for WFP nutrition programmes as part of humanitarian efforts in the Sahel.
In her speech, Monaco’s Deputy Representative to the FAO and the WFP highlighted the Principality’s commitment to this cause, noting that the country had this year doubled its voluntary contributions to the WFP to help meet Sustainable Development Goal No. 2 on food security and nutrition, a development priority for Monaco’s Official Development Assistance during the period 2018–2020 (in Burundi, Madagascar, Mauritania and Niger).
At the end of the 1st Session, the 3rd Africa Day for School Feeding was celebrated. On the sidelines of this event, Ms Martine Garcia-Mascarenhas met Ms Virginia Villar Arribas, the new WFP Country Director in Burundi, who welcomed Monaco’s continued support for a local school canteen programme in Muyinga province.
