At a Gavi global summit in Brussels on 25 June, Isabelle ROSABRUNETTO, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, announced that the Prince’s Government would double its financial support for the Alliance’s 2026-2030 strategy.

The Principality’s Department of International Cooperation devotes some 30% of its annual budget to healthcare, making the sector one of the biggest recipients of Monegasque development aid, and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is among the Department’s leading partners. Founded at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2000, Gavi brings together national governments, public banks, major multilateral institutions, non-profits, and private enterprises.

At the summit in Brussels on 25 June, Gavi held a meeting with current and potential stakeholders aimed at securing the funding it needs to carry out its work. Co-hosted by the European Union and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the event secured over 9 billion dollars in donor pledges, despite the United States government’s decision to withdraw funding. Over the last 25 years, more than a billion children have been vaccinated thanks to Gavi’s work.

Ms ROSABRUNETTO praised the organisation’s model, which allows fair access to vaccination in less developed countries, but stressed that “we absolutely need to step up our efforts, because it is unacceptable that children are still dying every day as a result of not being vaccinated. That is why the Principality of Monaco has resolved to double its support for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance over the next five years.”

In line with its commitment to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 (“Good Health and Well-being”), the Department of International Cooperation will continue to fund efforts aimed at combating child and youth mortality and infectious diseases over the period 2025-2030.
