On taking up post, Guillaume Valette-Valla met his Monegasque counterpart Michel Hunault.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the quality of the cooperation between the two financial intelligence units (FIUs).

Increased surveillance of financial flows is required to prevent the laundering of the proceeds of organised crime and corruption and to tackle terrorist financing.

The stakes are substantial in terms of attractiveness and confidence.

The role of FIUs within the system of security and terrorist prevention measures is what makes international cooperation so important.

Cooperation between the Egmont Group FIUs was also discussed, including the recent Francophone FIU Forum held in the Principality of Monaco.
