The Prince's Government and the ALIPH Foundation Sign a Partnership Agreement to Protect Endangered Cultural Heritage

Laurent Anselmi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and Valéry Freland, Executive Director of the ALIPH Foundation, have signed a Partnership Agreement between the Principality of Monaco and the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflict Areas, better known as the ALIPH Foundation.

The ALIPH Foundation was founded in Geneva in March 2017, following the Abu Dhabi International Conference on Safeguarding Endangered Cultural Heritage.  Its mission is to protect sites, museums, monuments and collections in conflict and post-conflict zones.  To this end, it finances preventive measures, emergency interventions and practical renovation projects throughout the world.  The ALIPH Foundation is currently the only global fund that is exclusively devoted to this aim and has recognised expertise in the field of protecting endangered heritage.

Among the main aspects of its foreign policy, the Prince's Government places particular importance on preserving world heritage, which all too often suffers massive degradation during armed conflicts and natural disasters.  The cooperation initiated with the ALIPH Foundation is therefore in line with the actions already supported by Monaco to safeguard endangered cultural heritage, especially within the framework of UNESCO and ICCROM.

The funding agreement between the ALIPH Foundation and the Prince's Government will enable the latter to contribute to the implementation of two particularly iconic projects, carried out by international or local operators, namely the refurbishment of the Raqqa Museum in north-east Syria and the renovation of St. Anthony's Church in Deddeh, Lebanon and the conservation of its wall paintings.
