Prince’s Government supports rural microcredit in Niger and Madagascar

The Department of International Cooperation has recently partnered with the non-governmental organisation (NGO) Zebunet to support small-scale farming and the development of livestock breeding in Niger and Madagascar through the provision of microloans.

Zebunet offers microloans for livestock farming to vulnerable groups in rural areas to help them develop income-generating activities.

In Niger, support from Monaco’s Official Development Assistance will enable 75 women to obtain loans at low interest rates to purchase a flock of sheep and goats. In Madagascar, 50 women or households will be able to fund a henhouse.

Access to credit will be accompanied by technical and veterinary support in order to provide the best possible conditions for livestock farming.

Monaco’s Official Development Assistance entities are also supporting Zebunet’s agro-environmental projects, including planting trees in deforested areas. Promoting sustainable development is an integral part of the work to improve living standards for the recipients.

Zebunet currently has a presence in six countries, where the NGO has helped 5,000 families to buy 15,000 animals.
