Monaco’s firefighters pay working visit to Burkina Faso
As part of the partnership with Burkina Faso in the field of civil defence, launched in 2007, Monaco’s Fire and Emergency Service and the Department of International Cooperation visited Ouagadougou from 11 to 13 July to share expertise and hold discussions.
As part of their visit, they were able to attend the first session of the Civil Defence consultation framework, set up following the agreements signed between the two countries in 2016. Present for the occasion were the Burkina Faso National Fire Brigade, the Higher Institute of Civil Defence Studies, the Directorate General for Civil Defence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Regional Administration and Decentralisation.
The meetings had two objectives: firstly, to provide an update on current projects; and secondly, to identify future directions for the partnership.
In this context, Colonel Tony Varo, Chief Officer of the Monaco Fire and Emergency Service, handed over equipment to the Burkina Faso National Fire Brigade.
Civil defence is one of the flagship programmes supported by Monaco’s Official Development Assistance. Since 2007, in addition to numerous donations of equipment and materials, more than €750,000 has been allocated to build Burkina Faso’s capacity in the field of civil defence and in disaster risk reduction.
