Cooperation: installation of photovoltaic system at Arkhangai Archaeological Research and Exhibition Centre (Mongolia)

The Tsatsyn Ereg Archaeological Research and Exhibition Centre, located in the Mongolian province of Arkhangai, was equipped with a photovoltaic solar power system funded by the Prince’s Government in August and September this year.

Now operating on renewable energy, the Centre, which is the result of a joint mission led by the Principality’s Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology and the Institute of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, has become a model for eco-friendly public buildings

With maximum installed capacity of 4 kWc, this photovoltaic system will supply the building with electricity, in a country which enjoys an average of 257 days of sunlight per year. A solar water heating system has also been installed. Staff at the Archaeological Research and Exhibition Centre have been trained in maintenance and operation of the new facilities by Geres, the NGO acting as technical partner for the project.

Researchers from Mongolia and the Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology have extended their scientific and cultural partnership with some brand new archaeological missions. Thanks to their collaboration, the site at Tsatsyn Ereg has been included on the UNESCO Tentative List.
