The Permanent Representation of Monaco to the Council of Europe celebrates the 20th anniversary of the reign of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince

On 8 July 2025, Monaco's Permanent Representation to the Council of Europe hosted a reception in honour of the 20th anniversary of H.S.H. Prince Albert II's ascension to the throne.

Around 200 guests and friends of the Principality, including the Council's Deputy Secretary General, the President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), along with numerous ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, ECHR judges and public figures from Strasbourg, were warmly welcomed to the Council of Europe's Salon Bleu restaurant by H.E. Gabriel Revel.

In his speech, the ambassador gave thanks to all the delegates in attendance for their support for Monaco's future Presidency of the Committee of Ministers and reaffirmed Monaco's commitment to the Council of Europe, whose 20th anniversary of membership was celebrated on 2 October 2024 in the presence of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince. He also announced that H.S.H. Prince Albert II would return to Strasbourg next year to address the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

Monaco will assume its first-ever presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe from May to November 2026, following the Republic of Moldova and preceding Montenegro. During these six months, various events highlighting priority issues, such as combating violence against women, protecting children's rights, sport, and the enforcement of Court judgments, will be organised in both Strasbourg and Monaco. A cultural programme will also be established, with numerous collaborations between cultural stakeholders from Monaco and Strasbourg.
