A Monegasque delegation[1] led by Ms Isabelle Rosabrunetto, Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, took part in the work of the 67th General Conference[2] of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), held in Vienna from 25 to 29 September 2023.

In her speech, Ms Rosabrunetto praised the Agency’s efforts to preserve the safety and security of nuclear facilities in Ukraine with the deployment of the IAEA Support and Assistance Mission in Zaporizhzhia (ISAMZ). She also reiterated Monaco’s support for the Organisation’s work, particularly in the area of peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology to protect the environment and human health.

The Director General pointed out that the year 2023 marked the 25th anniversary of the opening of the IAEA Marine Environment Laboratories at their current location on Quai Antoine I, during the commemorative centenary year of the birth of Prince Rainier III, who launched the process to bring the Laboratories to Monaco in 1961.

Parallel to the General Conference, Ms Isabelle Rosabrunetto also took part in an event hosted by the IAEA Rays of Hope programme, aimed at supporting the establishment of radiotherapy facilities in countries that have none, including several countries on the African continent. Speaking before several member states of the Organisation and the private sector — a partner of the Rays of Hope programme — the Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation reiterated the Prince’s Government’s support for this initiative.

 1. The Monegasque delegation comprised Isabelle Rosabrunetto, Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, H.E. Mr Lorenzo Ravano, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Monaco to the IAEA in Vienna, and Mr Andrea Colombo-Pastorelli, Second Secretary at Monaco’s Embassy in Germany.

 2. The aim of the conference is to set out the IAEA’s work for the coming year and to adopt resolutions on nuclear safety and security, the verification regime and safeguards, and the Agency’s work on peaceful use of nuclear science and technology.
