On 4–5 November 2023, Ms Isabelle Rosabrunetto, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, led the Monegasque Delegation at the 44th Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie held in Yaoundé (Cameroon).

The Conference, focused on good governance for political stability, economic and social prosperity and cultural influence in the French-speaking world, was an opportunity for delegations in attendance to discuss how OIF can support States in times of democratic crisis.

During her speech, the Director General stated that the focus of the meeting was more than ever central to concerns, given the escalation of conflicts and increase in crises. She pointed out that the fate of hundreds of thousands of French-speaking citizens depended on how the issue of governance in their country is, and will be, addressed.

Member States and governments also adopted OIF’s 2024-2027 programming, which shifts the focus of its activities to the following three strategic axes: the French language as a tool for culture and education, the French language as a tool for democracy and governance, and the French language as a vector of sustainable development.

In a demonstration of its commitment to the French-speaking community, the Principality also renewed its framework agreement with OIF in order to provide financial support for this new programming.

The event ended with Tunisia, host of the preceding OIF Summit, handing over the Presidency of the Ministerial Conference to France, which will host the 19th Summit. The French Delegation announced that the next Summit will be held on 4–5 October 2024 at the Cité Internationale de la Langue Française in the Villers-Cotterêts castle, on the subject of “Creation, innovation and entrepreneurship in French”.
