H.E. Mr Lorenzo RAVANO, Ambassador of the Principality of Monaco, presented his Letters of Credence to H.E. Mr Andrzej DUDA, President of the Republic of Poland, at a ceremony held at the Palace of Belweder, the Presidential Residence in Warsaw.

During the private audience that followed the ceremony, the Polish President raised the concerning situation in Ukraine, emphasising the history between Poland and Russia. H.E. Mr Lorenzo RAVANO reiterated H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince’s condemnation of the military aggression against Ukraine, and his call for a ceasefire and for international law and the territorial integrity of States to be upheld. The Ambassador also mentioned the Principality’s systematic application of international sanctions and, in the humanitarian field, the chain of solidarity established by the Monaco Red Cross and civil society, by sending emergency equipment and welcoming numerous Ukrainians to the Principality since the start of the conflict.

In addition, he reaffirmed the importance that H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince places on multilateralism and Monaco’s role in promoting respect for fundamental rights and freedoms in international organisations. In this regard, H.E. Mr Lorenzo RAVANO paid tribute to Poland’s presidency of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in 2022, in unprecedented circumstances.

Other bilateral issues were also discussed, including the strengthening of economic relations in areas such as FinTech, artificial intelligence and sustainable yachting, and the need for cooperation to pave the way for a durable energy transition, something made even more vital by the current geopolitical context. President Andrzej DUDA hailed the personal commitment of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and his Government’s action to protect the environment and combat climate change.

Following the presentation of Letters of Credence, in keeping with tradition, the Ambassador laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier in Pilsudski Square, in a solemn ceremony in the presence of the Warsaw Garrison.
