The Minister of State, Pierre Dartout, together with members of the Government and the High Commissioner for European Affairs, has today met the elected members of the National Council at a Plenary Studies Committee meeting to present the results of the prospective study on the economic, legal and political consequences for the Principality of a possible failure of the current negotiations with the European Union, which the Government had commissioned from the law firm August Debouzy and its subcontractor, the financial consultancy Accuracy*.

After eight years of negotiations, this process has now reached a decisive stage. Accordingly, the Prince's Government would like to see a prospective study carried out.

Representatives from August Debouzy and Accuracy shared the results of their study with the elected representatives. The study is based on two documents: a summary report and an economic report, presenting the different scenarios (agreement/non-agreement) and the resulting consequences for the Principality.

The essence of the report was summarised by Mr Pierre Sellal, senior counsel at August Debouzy: "To provide the Government with a basis for assessing the decision it must factor in an extensive and objective assessment of the consequences of reaching or failing to reach an agreement."

The Minister of State declared: "I would like to thank the firms August Debouzy and Accuracy and all the teams within the Government, led by Isabelle Costa, for conducting this study, which supports our view that we must continue to move forward in the negotiations being held with the European Commission, while being more vigilant than ever on critical issues for the Principality."

The two documents presented by the appointed firms can be accessed on the Monaco Government website, under the "Monaco and the European Union" section: https://www.gouv.mc/Action-Gouvernementale/Monaco-a-l-International/Monaco-et-l-Union-europeenne

*The firms were selected following a consultation process launched last September, which resulted in the submission of three high-quality proposals.
