H.E. Ms Isabelle Picco elected Chair of the Meeting of States parties to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination

H.E. Ms Isabelle Picco, Monaco’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has been elected Chair of the 31st Meeting of States Parties to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD). The year 2025 marks the 60th anniversary of the Convention and the 30th anniversary of its ratification by the Principality.

The purpose of the meeting, held on 2 June 2025, was to elect nine new members of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD)*. Composed of 18 independent experts, the Committee meets three times per year to examine reports by the States Parties and issue recommendations on the promotion and implementation of the Convention.

The uncontested election of H.E. Ms Isabelle Picco as Chair demonstrates the commitment of the Prince’s Government to defending human rights.

 

*Newly elected members of the Committee are from the following countries: Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Mexico, Panama, Poland, Qatar, the Republic of Korea, Togo and Turkey. They join members on the Committee since 2023 from the following countries: China, Greece, Jamaica, Liberia, Malawi, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal and South Africa.
