- Electronic travel authorisation for Canada
Autorisation de voyage électronique pour le Canada
Like the United States with the ESTA, Canada is preparing to implement an electronic travel authorisation (ETA).
From 15 March 2016, nationals of countries other than the United States, including Monaco, France, Belgium and Switzerland, who until now were not required to have a visa to enter Canada, must obtain an ETA before flying to that country.
Thus, to enter or transit through Canada, for all travel as from 15 March, it will be obligatory to obtain an ETA by making an online request and providing personal details similar to those currently requested from travellers on their arrival in Canada.
The official request form can be found on the Canadian Government's web site:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/eta.asp
The ETA is valid for a maximum of five years and costs 7 Canadian dollars.
Note that travellers' passports must be valid for 6 months after their return.
