Safe electric car charging: Public Car Parks Office rolls out sprinkler system at Parking des Carmes

The incentives introduced by the Government to promote electric mobility are bearing fruit: with eco-friendly vehicles now accounting for more than 11% of registered vehicles in the country, Monaco is leading the way.

To respond to this trend and enable it to continue installing Monaco On rapid charging points, the Public Car Parks Office is adapting its facilities to improve fire safety.

Sprinklers are automatic devices which turn on and spray water if a temperature threshold is exceeded, meaning that any outbreaks of fire can quickly be extinguished.

Already in place in many of the Principality’s car parks, their deployment is a mandatory prerequisite for the installation of charging points.

Among those car parks that do not yet have sprinklers, installation is already underway at Parking des Écoles, with Parking des Carmes to follow soon.

Therefore, between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm from 24 October to 8 November, alternating traffic controls on Boulevard du Larvotto, near the entrance to Parking des Carmes, will be required so that preparations can be made for connecting the site to the water network. It will still be possible to access the car park and the pedestrian walkways.

The Government has opted to schedule this work largely during the All Saints’ Day school holidays, when traffic is less busy, thereby reducing the disruption caused by the alternating traffic controls. The site working hours have also been adapted to take account of peak travel times.

The Athéna, Port, Agaves and Papalins car parks will also be included in the extension of the sprinkler system and, therefore, the roll-out of new charging points.
