Results of the European Week for Waste Reduction Awards
The Department of the Environment, a member of the Steering Committee, attended the annual European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) Awards in Brussels on 9 June.
This grand annual EWWR celebration recognised and rewarded the six most impressive awareness actions implemented during November 2021 in the following categories: Public Administration; Business/Industry; Association/NGO; Educational Establishment; Citizens. Virginijus Sinkevičius, the European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Françoise Bonnet, the Secretary-General of the Association of Cities and Regions, and Tjisse Stelpstra, a member of the European Committee of the Regions, presented the awards to the recipients.
In addition, a European Special Prize was awarded to the action that best demonstrated the “European Spirit” and members of the public had an opportunity to choose their favourite action, in honour of which a tree will be planted in an area experiencing desertification.
The winners received a trophy made from recycled materials in the Balearic islands by a local artist.
The next EWWR in Monaco will be held from 19 to 27 November 2022 on the theme of Circular and Sustainable Textiles. If you would like to take part, please contact the Department of the Environment: environnement@gouv.mc
