National Council President Thomas Brezzo visits the National Archives to sign a new agreement for the transfer of historic records

On 16 July, Thomas Brezzo, President of the National Council, visited Monaco’s recently created National Archives Department in Fontvieille, accompanied by a delegation from the National Council including Marie-Noëlle Gibelli, Vice-Chair of the Culture and Heritage Committee, Rémy Rolland, Chief of Staff, and Grégoire Commeau, Head of the Document Management Division.

Thomas Brezzo and Michaël Bloche, Director of the National Archives, signed three agreements during the visit, including a new protocol that will see the National Council transfer a further set of its historic records to the National Archives for permanent preservation, following a similar arrangement concluded last autumn.

The latest collection of documents to be archived includes registers of laws passed during public sessions between 1918 and 1973, signed and initialled by the President of the National Council, along with budget documents from the 1920s to the 2000s, and press clippings from the Journal de Monaco reporting on speeches made by Council members, arranged chronologically by topic and dating from 1911 to 1930.

The National Council and the National Archives are already working on plans to transfer a third collection of documents next autumn, as they look to continue an exemplary collaboration that began over four years ago when the National Archives Preparatory Team was created. The National Council has been committed to modernising and standardising its archiving policy for many years.

The delegation from the National Council was also given a tour of the National Archives and invited to inspect some original documents.
