Monegasque nationals will require Electronic Travel Authorisation for travel to UK from April 2025

From 2 April 2025, Monegasque nationals wishing to travel to the United Kingdom for business, tourism or airport transfers will need to have an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA).

What is the ETA?

The ETA is a digital document that authorises entry to the United Kingdom for visa-exempt travellers. The system applies to anyone who does not require a visa to visit the United Kingdom for a short stay, with the exception of British or Irish citizens.

An ETA will be required for business travel, tourism and airport transfers. Travellers must obtain an ETA before boarding their flight, train or other means of transport to the United Kingdom.

When will the ETA come into force?

Eligible European nationals (including those from Monaco) will be able to apply for an ETA from 5 March 2025.

It will be mandatory for Monegasque travellers to have an ETA to visit the United Kingdom from 2 April 2025.

Who is affected?

The ETA will apply to all citizens of visa-exempt countries for stays of less than six months, including countries in the European Union, the European Economic Area and other eligible countries.

It will therefore be mandatory for Monegasque nationals to have an ETA. This includes babies and children: parents may apply on behalf of their minor children.

Individuals who already have a visa or residence permit for the United Kingdom, or who are required to apply for a visa for their stay (duration of more than six months, work visa, student visa, etc.) do not need to apply for an ETA.

How to apply for an ETA

ETA applications should be made online via a dedicated portal (https://apply-for-an-eta.homeoffice.gov.uk/how-to-apply ), or mobile app (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/uk-eta/id6444912481 and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.gov.HomeOffice.ho3 ).

You will need to provide personal details and the information listed on your passport. The majority of applications are processed quickly, but it is recommended to apply at least a few days before you plan to travel.

Cost and validity

An ETA costs £10 per application and is valid for two years. You must apply for a new ETA following the issue of a new passport.
