Monaco present at the 75th World Health Assembly
The 75th World Health Assembly took place in Geneva from 22 to 28 May 2022. The theme of the general debate was “health for peace, peace for health”. In a pre-recorded message, Isabelle BERRO-AMADEÏ, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, said that the health of all peoples is a fundamental condition for world peace and security. She reaffirmed the Principality’s solidarity with the people of Ukraine, and called for the protection of civilians and healthcare workers, and civilian and healthcare infrastructures.
Owing to its dramatic consequences, the situation in Ukraine and neighbouring countries was central to the discussions. The Principality supported a resolution proposed by Ukraine alongside more than fifty other Member States.
Monaco also took part in discussions on measures to strengthen the WHO’s preparedness and response to health emergencies, and expressed support for a resolution to amend the International Health Regulations to that end.
There was an update on the Covid-19 situation and the emergence of cases of monkeypox virus. Regarding Covid-19, it was made clear that the pandemic is on-going, and the WHO recommended that Member States continue their testing, monitoring, and vaccination campaigns. On the issue of monkeypox, Member States asked to be kept informed of developments in case numbers and current research.
Finally, Dr Tedros ADHANOM GHEBREYESUS was re-elected as Director-General of the WHO for a second term.
