Monaco launches the ‘Identitovigilance’ awareness campaign to promote best practices in positive patient identification
‘To receive the correct treatment, I must be correctly identified’. As part of its healthcare quality and safety policy, the Principality of Monaco is launching the ‘Identitovigilance’ campaign across all its healthcare facilities to highlight the importance of positive patient identification.
What is positive patient identification (PPI)?
A set of guidelines that the administrative and medical teams follow to ensure that patients are correctly identified in order to receive the appropriate care.
Identity errors can lead to medical errors, so PPI is everyone's responsibility
During a medical examination, procedure or blood test, patients will follow three simple steps:
- Provide proof of identity.
- Answer questions from medical staff.
- Confirm the correct medical information recorded on their file.
Regardless of whether patient records are held electronically or in paper format, adopting these practices is a first step towards ensuring a safe healthcare journey for all patients treated in the Principality.
The ‘Identitovigilance’ visual campaign is being rolled out across the Principality to raise public awareness of best practices in this area.
For Christophe Robino, Minister of Health and Social Affairs, this campaign reflects the Prince's Government's commitment to safe, responsible and respectful healthcare so that all patients can advocate for their own safety.
