Monaco Takes Part in the Launch of the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network
H.E. Mr. Robert Fillon, Ambassador of Monaco to Italy and Ms. Anne Eastwood, High Commissioner for the Protection of Rights, Liberties and for Mediation, took part in the launch ceremony and first meeting of the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network, held by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 26 October 2017 in Rome.
This Network is an initiative by Italy, a member of the United Nations Security Council since January 2017, which has set itself the main aim of contributing to efforts to "build the peace of tomorrow." Security Council Resolution 1325 (adopted in 2000) focuses on promoting women's effective participation in conflict prevention and mediation and their specific needs in peace processes.
First of all, the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network must define its organisation and working methods; the meeting of 26 October was largely devoted to this. The Network's priority action programmes for the coming months will subsequently be defined.
The High Commissioner in Monaco was inaugurated on 19 March 2015. It offers everyone a peaceful and non-confrontational means of enforcing their rights vis-à-vis the Monegasque administration, as well as in the private sector with regard to combating discrimination.
