On Thursday 6 February at the Ministry of State, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation held the first meeting of the Steering Committee to plan for Monaco’s chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe for the first time in its history, for six months starting in May 2026.

The COPIL, composed of all Government ministries and the Department of Justice, outlined the major subjects and events planned for this six-month chairmanship, which will be held in the Principality and Strasbourg at the headquarters of the Council of Europe, and laid down the framework for the organisation of this type of event.

This intense period of international activity will allow the Principality to highlight the values it shares with the European institution, including sports ethics, the protection of children’s rights and the fight against violence against women. It will conclude with the Council of Europe Conference of Ministers Responsible for Sport at the Grimaldi Forum in early November 2026, still under Monaco’s chairmanship.
