As a prelude to the 12th meeting of Member States of the Convention on Migratory Species of Wild Animals (COP12 of the CMS), which is taking place in Manila until 28 October, environment ministers and representatives of international organisations discussed the links between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and wildlife conservation. At this meeting, Ms. Isabelle Rosabrunetto, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, recalled that, to achieve the objectives set out in the 2030 Agenda, a specific cross-cutting approach was required, specified at the highest level of Governement.

The conclusions of this round table resulted in a declaration highlighting the crucial contribution of biodiversity to achieving all the SDGs.

During the day, the Executive Secretary of the CMS presented Ms. Rosabrunetto with the title of "CMS Champion," in recognition of the Principality's continued support for migratory marine species.

The Champions Programme, launched in 2014, recognises states and institutions, which, through their political leadership, advocacy efforts or financial contributions, identify solutions to the problems that affect migratory species.
