APIdays: “Bees, environmental sentinels” National Awareness Day
Since 2011 Monaco has been a partner of the “Bees, environmental sentinels” programme created by the UNAF, France’s national beekeeping association.
Since this partnership was signed, several hives have been installed around the Principality, including the roof terraces of the Museum of Philately and Coinage in Fontvieille.
These hives are digitally monitored and used to measure our effects on these precious helpers in the major environmental cycles.
A growing number of threats weigh on bees and all pollinators in general, stemming from the use of pesticides, monoculture, climate change, and new predators such as the Asian hornet.
To raise awareness about the critical role played by bees and the importance of protecting them, the Department of Urban Amenities is delighted to offer free events for young and old alike at the UNESCO Gardens on the Fontvieille Terraces on Friday 14 June and Saturday 15 June from 9 am to 4 pm.
The programme includes workshops on honey and bees and how to extract honey, make a natural wax candle or build a hive, as well as educational games and photo exhibitions.
We hope to see you there!
