44th session of the FAO conference: Monaco reaffirms its commitment to ending world hunger

From 28 June to 4 July, the Principality of Monaco took part in the 44th session of the conference of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, following on from the recent visit of the Director-General of the FAO to Monaco on 10 June.

This conference, which assembles all FAO Member States every two years, addressed crucial issues for global food security and the transformation of sustainable agri-food systems. The discussions highlighted the vital importance of innovation in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the urgent need for greater collective solidarity to address current challenges.

On the occasion of FAO's 80th anniversary, the conference officially launched the institutional renewal process, which may spark a series of organisational reforms in 2027.

In this context, Monaco reaffirmed its full commitment to the FAO and its willingness to play an active role in future work aimed at providing the organisation with improved governance and the capacity to fulfil its mission as effectively as possible, in a challenging international climate marked in particular by a decline in funding from major donors, which is jeopardising the achievement of SDG No. 2 (Zero Hunger).

Accordingly, the Principality, which is particularly committed to this SDG, recently ramped up its support for the FAO by joining the Flexible Voluntary Contribution Fund (FVC) in 2024 alongside twelve other partner countries. This fund was established to enable the organisation to be more adaptable to immediate challenges and to finance innovative projects.
