On 17 September 2019, for the first time, the WHO is celebrating World Patient Safety Day.  The aim is to raise awareness among all players in the health sector of improving the quality and safety of healthcare

The Principality is naturally associated with this event.  In Monaco, excellence in healthcare is an ongoing concern, and patients are central to the debate.  Public health is one of the priorities of the Monegasque Government, which devotes almost 8% of the State budget to it each year.

Such a commitment enables Monaco to have an exemplary healthcare sector, which stands out because of its competent professionals, wide range of services and excellent technical equipment. These results place the Principality in the leading group of OECD countries and win it global recognition.

To maintain this level of excellence, the Prince's Government is continuing its efforts, both in the field of preventative health and health monitoring, as well as in the area of quality of care.

The Ministry of Health and Social Affairs has thus initiated the drafting of a Bill, currently being finalised, on "preserving patients' health in healthcare facilities."  The twofold aim of this Bill is, on the one hand, to prevent adverse events related to medical treatment and infections contracted in healthcare establishments and, on the other, to ensure patients' rights in the event of litigation.

This demonstrates the Principality's interest in the first World Day devoted to patients and their safety.
