The Police Department's New Year Address
In the presence of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, Serge Telle, Minister of State, and the highest authorities of the Principality, Patrice Cellario, Minister of Interior, gave a New Year address to the staff of the Police Department, in the absence of Richard Marangoni, who was unwell.
Patrice Cellario highlighted the work accomplished, in particular thanks to the 2020 Security Plan. He gave some significant statistics: between 2016 and 2019, overall crime fell by 16% and street crime by 52%. Between 2018 and 2019, overall crime fell from 936 to 889 incidents of overall crime and from 121 to 90 incidents of street crime.
The Minister then outlined the major projects for 2020, namely, creating a drone interception unit, implementing additional means for protecting vulnerable persons, remodelling the informatics system of the residents' section, adding an additional storey to the DSP building and creating a Quality of Life Protection Unit (UPCV), which will be comprised of 10 officers.
In His reply, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince stated that "Everything is achieved on a day-to-day basis. Together, we will continue, with vigilance and rigour, to strengthen the security of the haven of tranquillity that is the Principality of Monaco."
Finally, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince presented the Exceptional Service Medal to officer Frédéric Maglott, who had given first aid to a person who suffered a heart attack in Monaco station.
