UN - Monaco Supports the Launch of the "International Decade of Water"
On the occasion of the launch of the "International Decade of Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028," the Permanent Mission of Monaco to the United Nations expressed the Principality's concerns with regard to the major issues and challenges that the international community is facing. This event took place in the presence of the President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Antonio Guterres.
The Mission of Monaco emphasised the action taken by the Monegasque authorities to reduce and control national water consumption. It also highlighted Monaco's commitment at the international level, in particular through the financial support of numerous cooperation projects, such as facilitating access to drinking water for vulnerable populations and promoting the sustainable management of this resource.
In addition, every year, on the occasion of the United Nations Correspondents Association (ACANU), the Principality awards the Prince Albert II Prize, which recognises the best press coverage of the UN's activities, with a focus on climate change, biodiversity and water.
